Jazz Fest Call to Action

October 31, 2009
JAZZ FEST MAY BE CUT TO ONLY 2 DAYS
The oldest of the city's free music festivals, the Chicago Jazz Festival remains one of the most critically acclaimed and popular events in our city, with a strong attraction for tourists from our area and around the world.
We also believe that given the current economic climate, the most compelling reason NOT to downsize the festival is that through attracting high-level sponsorship and exceeding its vendor revenue projections it is also an activity that generates much needed revenue for our city.
We have written letters to each of the 50 Aldermen as well as Mayor's Office of Special Events Director Megan McDonald urging their strong support of a three-day Chicago Jazz Festival. You can read our letter here.
The second round of discussion of the budget for the Jazz Festival is set to take place November 5th. Can you do your part and call your Alderman on Monday November 2, Tuesday Nov 3 or Wednesday Nov 4 of next week? Click here to see a full list of Chicago Aldermen and their contact info.
It's important that the message you convey is positive:
- I love the jazz festival.
- Please keep the festival at 3 days.
Thanks for helping to communicate that the support from the jazz community is strong! We want to send a positive message to our City Council members of the importance and impact that jazz plays in our world class city.
Thank you for all your support,
Lauren Deutsch, Executive Director & Neil Tesser, Festival Committee Chair.
